GO LACY and ELLIE!
On Friday October 19, 2007 Lacy, Cheyenne and I said Goodbye to Ellie. Ellie had been suffering seizures on and off since January after she was kicked by a horse. When the seizure medication could no longer control her suffering, the 3 of us decided it was time to let Ellie go with dignity.
Ellie was more than I had ever imagined she would be. A Bitch in every sense of the word. She was a beautiful bitch who fought me every step of the way in the show ring. When she was unexpectedly bred by Gambler, she produced a beautiful litter which included Ch Ivylane's Late Arrival, Ivylane's Fashionably Late, Ivylane's Bett'r Late than Nev'r and the lone Brindle named for her uncle Ivylane's Double Dutch. Ellie was spayed after this litter, it was easier to spay her than fight her in the show ring. Fast forward to 2005, I had moved to Texas. While at a show in Oklahoma I met a Junior Handler team of twin sisters, little did I know how much that day would change our lives. Cheyenne was outgoing and used to winning in the ring, Lacy was quiet and used to being behind her sister. Lacy needed a good dog for Juniors, a dog that would boost her confidence and get her to the Eukanuba Invitational Show. I met up with the girls a few weeks later at a show in Glen Rose. Lacy was to meet Ellie. I had already told her that Ellie was a bitch that you don't make mad or she would get even and that she really preferred the couch to a show lead and liver treats. Ellie made me a fool that day. She instantly fell in LOVE with Lacy. Watching the two practice in the parking lot made me wish for he first time that I hadn't spayed Ellie, Lacy could have finished Ellie in a heartbeat.
Lacy and Ellie became a team to be reckoned with in a very short amount of time. Watching them together brought tears to my eyes many times and made me a proud "dog show mom" Ellie truly taught Lacy the ins and outs of dog showing, taught Lacy that soft hands are better than a firm grip and that holding the bait a certain way would save her fingers from accidentally landing between an old girls teeth. Ellie took Lacy to Long Beach California that first year and again the next year (2006).
In 2006 Ellie qualified Lacy for the 2007 Westminster Kennel Club Show. It was to be a grand adventure that Ellie was not sure she appreciated very much! Even though Ellie didn't like playing in the Big Apple, she showed her heart out for Lacy, they didn't get a ribbon, but what they did get was more important than a ribbon. They got recognized for the hard work they put in as a team. I am very proud of the accomplishments of TEAM Ellie & Lacy and very honored to have been able to share my life with a little brindle bitch who taught so many lessons to me and a 12 year old shy little girl. Ellie will live on through her children and grandchildren and through the memories and friendships that she created.
Till We meet again................................................
