"Ellie"

Ellie was more than I had ever imagined she would be. A Bitch in every sense of the word, who fought me every step of the way in the show ring. A breeding to "Gambler", Am/Mex Ch Raklyns High Stakes At Ivylane, TT produced a beautiful litter that included Ch Ivylane's Late Arrival, Ivylane's Fashionably Late, Ivylane's Bett'r Late Than Nev'r and a lone brindle named for her uncle Ivylane's Double Dutch. Ellie was spayed after this litter, it was easier to spay her than fight her in the show ring.

In 2005 after moving to Texas, at a show in Oklahoma I met a team of Junior Handlers, Lacy and Cheyenne Nichols, twin sisters. I was unaware of how that day would change our lives. Cheyenne was outgoing and used to winning in the ring, Lacy was quiet and followed behind her sister. Lacy needed a good dog for Juniors, a dog that would boost her confidence and get her to the Eukanuba Invitational Show. A few weeks later I met up with the girls at a show so Lacy could meet Ellie. Already informed that Ellie was a bitch that you didn't want to make mad or she would get even and that she preferred the couch to a show lead & liver treats. But, as Boxers often do, Ellie made me a fool that day. She instantly fell in love with Lacy and a relationship was formed. Observing them practice made me wish for the first time that I had not spayed Ellie, because Lacy could have finished her in a heartbeat.

Lacy & Ellie

Lacy and Ellie became a team to be reckoned with in a very short amount of time. Watching them together brought tears to my eyes many times and made me a proud "dog show mom" Ellie truly taught Lacy the ins and outs of dog showing. Teaching Lacy that soft hands are better than a firm grip and that holding the bait a certain way would save her fingers from accidentally landing between an old girls teeth. Ellie took Lacy to Long Beach California that first year and again the next year in 2006.

In 2006 Ellie qualified Lacy for the 2007 Westminster Kennel Club Show. It was to be a grand adventure that Ellie was not sure she appreciated very much! Even though Ellie didn't like playing in the Big Apple, she showed her heart out for Lacy, they were not in the ribbons, but what they gained was more important than a ribbon. They were recognized for their hard work as a team. I am very proud of the accomplishments of TEAM Ellie & Lacy and honored to have shared my life with a little brindle bitch who taught me so many lessons, and gave a 12 year old shy little girl so much. Ellie will live on through her children and grandchildren and through the memories and friendships that she created.

On Friday October 19, 2007 Lacy, Cheyenne and I said goodbye to Ellie. She had been suffering from seizures on and off since January after she was kicked by a horse. When the seizure medication could no longer control her suffering, the three of us decided it was time to let her go with dignity. Till we meet again . . .
